Have you ever sat down to create something and wonder “Where do I begin…what technique…what colors…how will I design the card? Well, this is exactly how I felt when I sat down to create my project for this month’s Stamp of the Month blog hop. The only thing I was pretty sure I knew I wanted to do was to heat emboss the open lines.
Technique…check.
Next, I needed to figure out how I was going to design my card, so I sat down at my computer and started looking at challenge blogs for inspiration. I ended up selecting the sketch for this week’s Heart 2 Heart challenge…besides, it’s been a while since I’ve played along, so why not shoot two birds with one stone? (Don’t worry, no birds were harmed in the making of this card…lol) Here’s the sketch…
I really liked the circle card, as I hadn’t made one in a while…so I thought clear cards…it’s been even longer since I made one of those.
Design…check.
Okay…I’ve got my design and my technique, but I was still stuck on the colors. I really wanted to use CTMH’s Bliss paper, but I had a big problem…I don’t own it yet. Well, not entirely true, I do own the bulk paper, but there’s only two patterns and one of the two patterns is a tole pattern. I just didn’t think it would work with what I had in mind. The other pattern is a pretty floral, but it was so…well…neutral, maybe a little boring? But then eureka!! I remembered seeing a gorgeous card that used Bliss paper with a “splash” of color. I saw the card on Aaron Brown’s blog,
Booth 32. I also remembered that she had suggested adding a splash of color to the muted colors of the Bliss paper pack. I played around with some scraps in my Wings paper pack, but finally settled on a little strip of Vineyard Berry cardstock. So now…
Color…check!
So here is what I came up with…
The very first thing I did was stamp the flower, but only after doing so and coloring in the leaves, I realized it was waaaaayyy to big for my little circle card. However, I didn’t want to toss it…after all, I had gone to all the trouble of stamping the image in black, then stamping the flower in Vineyard Berry, then stamping over the image again with VersaMark, embossing it with clear embossing powder and coloring in the leaves. So yeah…too much effort to simply toss it. 🙂 So I ended up keeping it and making a simple little book mark.

I stamped the flower a second time (except the very top portion) and cut it down. On a scrap piece of cardstock, I stamped the bud portion, trimmed it and popped it over the end of the stem. In the process of cutting the cardstock down to fit on the card, I ended up using an craft knife to cut the edges of the paper shorter than the image, but cutting around the image. I love this look. It reminds me of some stamps that I have from the Canadian company…Magenta…kind of like this
one.
I used the sentiment stamp with Bamboo ink on the strip of bamboo cardstock. On the strip of Vineyard Berry cardstock, I stamped the solid butterfly with second generation Vineyard Berry ink and the line butterfly with first generation Vineyard Berry. I masked the “We are so” portion of the other sentiment stamp to create the “Blessed” sentiment strip.
I usually leave the inside of my cards blank, because I like to write little notes on the inside (though some would argue that they’re more like letters…lol). However, there are just so many images with this stamp set, I just couldn’t help myself. 😉 So, I stamped the flower (lined image) with second generation Cocoa ink and the flower bud with third generation Vineyard Berry. I then stamped the sentiment (the same one that I random stamped on the bamboo cardstock strip on the front) using Vineyard Berry.

Embellishments: Cocoa grosgrain ribbon, Mocha Opaque Gems, Embroidery Floss
Other: Clear Embossing Powder, Edge Distresser, Micro-tip scissors, Sponge, Craft Knife, VersaMat, Piercing Tool, Circle cutter (EK Success), Stitching Guide (Lasting Impressions), 3D Foam Tape, Tombow Mono Adhesive
