This week over at Heart 2 Heart Challenges, we are having my favorite kind of challenge…a sketch challenge.
It’s often how I start almost any project…cards or layouts. It beats staring at a paper or some photos for an hour (or more) trying to make a decision on how to cut my paper and what I want to create. I mean, what if I cut my paper and then change my mind. LOL
I love how open for interpretation this sketch can be. Originally, I was going to make a 3×3 card, a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card and a 6×6 card…all with the same design. I was going to use gold, silver and black shimmer trim on all three, only changing the width and the placement of the sentiment. So I completed the 3×3 card by cutting the strips of shimmer trim and then trimming them in half using a trimmer (remove the backing first and it will stick in place on the trimmer). Because of the small size, I decided to place the sentiment to the side rather than on top of the strips.
When I started the second card, like so often happens, I got to playing and soon I ended up with something completely different. It wasn’t my intention, but now I’m afraid that I may have been (unconsciously) inspired by Alyson Mayo’s card for this challenge, because it definitely has a similar feel…but it is still quite different. With the 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card, I knew that I wanted to use the new Bashful glitter paper. Even though I toyed with kraft cardstock, I continued with the white on white. I do so love that look, especially when the top white panel is embossed. I then decided to use the gorgeous rose image from the “Beautiful You” stamp set in place of the sentiment in the sketch and keep the sentiment to the right like I did in the 3×3 card.
I still have several ideas that I’d like to try…we’ll just have to see if my work schedule (school’s back in session) will allow more paper play time. 😉

Now it’s your turn. How will YOU interpret this sketch?
We’d love to have you join us at Heart 2 Heart Challenges. Remember. Every Monday morning a new challenge is posted with the deadline to enter at midnight on the last day of the month or on the Saturday following the month’s final challenge. The challenge varies from week to week and can be a color challenge, a sketch, an inspiration photo, a theme challenge, or something else. You can choose to play along every week, or just play along when the challenge moves you. The only requirement to play along is that CTMH products must be included in your submitted project, but it doesn’t have to be 100% CTMH (and it doesn’t have to be new product either).
I hope to see you over at H2H!

Stunning cards…love that bashful color and glitter paper…in fact just ordered.
